Avery's Prayer

Every day before we eat and before we go to bed we always say our prayers. Avery is at the age where she likes to say hers all by herself. It is amazing to me what she comes off with, but what is even more amazing is her relationship with God. No, she is not old enough to know all the ends and outs (really, who is?) but she believes in God and loves God with all her little heart. It is so precious! The other night we all sat down for dinner and Avery said that she wanted to say the prayer. As I sat their listening (this was not a short prayer)I realized how wonderful Avery's prayer was and how we could all learn something from it. If we all would pray like Avery, what a wonderful relationship with God we would have. What does she do that is so special? She talks to him. Yep, that is it...she simply talks to him. She tells him about her day, what is going on in her life, how she feels about things, about who her friends are...yes she asks him for things and she thanks him for things, but what is so amazing to me is that she talks to him like he is her best friend. Like he is sitting right their in the room and he has no clue what she did that day unless she tells him. Then at the end of every prayer she tells him how much she loves him. Don't you think that is the exact relationship God wants with us? I do. He is here to be our best friend, someone to talk to about life. Yes, he knows all, but my guess is he still wants us to share with him what is going on in our life. To share every little thing with him. Now when I bow my head to say my prayers, I think of Avery and how innocently she shares her life with God, building on that relationship one prayer at a time. May we all learn from from our four year olds and may your prayers be a conversation with God!

This almost made me cry. You are so right in what you said. It's sad to think there are little kids out there that don't know God. Beautiful picture!
